A set of Silver Birch Wood Younger Futhark Runes, all cut from the same branch, sanded smooth, pyrographed with the rune and finished with beeswax polish.
The Younger Futhark runes evolved in Scandinavia and are descended from the Elder Futhark Runes. They began to emerge over the 7th and 8th century’s and came into popular usage in the 9th century.
They consist of just 16 runes, unlike the Elder Futhark or Anglo-Saxon runes. The Younger Futhark has several variants – the Long-branch Version (this version) used in Denmark, and the Short-twig version used in Norway and Sweden. In Europe, it is the Younger Futhark Alphabet that came to be known as the Alphabet of the Norsemen.
