Purging Buckthorn Wood Wand Pendant: For Tenacity & Motivation
A beautiful and unusual mini wand pendant made of Purging Buckthorn (often called just Buckthorn) which I found while walking in the sacred landscape of Glastonbury, I bring many pieces of wood home with me, many become runes and ogham, some of the more unusual pieces become pendants.
I'm guessing most people aren't hugely familiar with purging buckthorn these days - it’s not very common.
I carved the end into a point and sanded the wood smooth, leaving the bark with it’s knot for the handle. It's had a coat of lovely beeswax polish to finish the wand off.
This little wand pendant is about 14.5cm in length. It hangs on a generous length of waxed cotton cord with an upcycled wooden bead, ready for you to wear or use as a functional, if small wand.
The more you wear wood, the more it will pick up the natural oils of your skin and the softer and more beautiful the wood will become. Please do not wear your pendant in the bath or the shower - it won't appreciate a soaking).
Purging Buckthorn looks similar to dogwood and is a native British tree, that is far less well known that dogwood (they're not related). It's associated with tenacity and motivation.
All my wood is sustainable - either gathered after storms or from needed pruning/forestry/tree maintenance.
