Once I was a clock, 6 - Upcycled MantlePiece Scrying Mirror
This is a one of a kind item, the fourth in the series - each is unique, sought after and amazing
"Once I was a clock 6"
Yes, once this was an old, ugly, antique broken clock. I removed the chipped and peeling wood venner and sanded it down to the wood - I'm not sure what wood, but very likely it's mahogany, and pyrographed (burnt) a design of spirals, flowers and leaves onto the front and sides of the clock.
I removed the clock mechanism and painted the glass face black.
The wood has been polished with beeswax polish, which both protects the wood and deepens the colour.
Sealed behind the glass is a bag of herbs that I associate with scrying, and which I also use as a tea to wash the glass before it's painted. One of the herbs is valerian root - which is pungent....some say it smells of old feet -I don't think the scent escapes!
The back plate swings open to reveal a hidden compartment.
The mirror is 41cm at its widest point and 24 cm tall. The mirror face is about 11cm across.
